Money Monk Companion Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 6, 2026.
Money Monk is operated by Bloom Strategies LLC, a Texas limited liability company. This policy covers Money Monk Companion, the Money Monk add-on for Google Sheets: what it accesses, how it uses and stores that information, and how it is protected. Questions: greg@moneymonk.co.
A note from the founder
I believe in the right to privacy online. I built my Money Monk Sheet and add-on with the intention of giving people control over their own financial data and journey. As an owner of these tools, I am not interested in profiting off of customer's data. My business model is to create tools, services, and content that help everyday people build wealth. That's it. Transparency and straightforwardness are ideas that I want my company to deliver on. Questions or suggestions about privacy? Email greg@moneymonk.co.
The short version
- Your data stays with you. Your workbook and exports stay in your own Google account.
- We receive none of your financial data. The add-on never sends your balances, transactions, account names or any other workbook content to Money Monk or anyone else.
- No Money Monk database. There is no database, server, analytics or advertising tool behind the add-on.
- Lowest permissions. The add-on uses the narrowest Google permissions that support its features.
What the add-on does
- Core functionality: The original and primary function of the add-on is that it writes text IDs in key parts of the tool (account (ACCT_) ids, budget (CAT_) ids, debt (DEBT_) ids, and a few others). The spreadsheet formulas match on these IDs to provide persistence of your records, the way a database would, so the Money Monk spreadsheet can serve as your ledger for many years.
- Updating, backups, and keeping your own data: Import, export and Start Fresh let you move your data to an updated copy as I fix bugs or add features, keep a copy in your own Drive, or start over with a fresh sheet.
- For convenience: the add-on records a Net Worth snapshot at the click of a button, or automatically once a month if you turn that on.
- Views and themes: a sidebar, a Money Flow (Sankey) chart, and theme and font options so you can customize the spreadsheet.
Permissions and why they are needed
- See and edit only the spreadsheet where the add-on is used (
spreadsheets.currentonly). Used to write IDs, run snapshots, import and export, and apply themes. The add-on cannot open your other spreadsheets. - See and edit only Google Drive files the add-on creates or that you choose (
drive.file). Used to create export files and read an export you pick to import. The add-on cannot see the rest of your Drive. - Display content inside Google applications (
script.container.ui). Used for the sidebar and dialogs. - Run when you are not present (
script.scriptapp). Used to record the monthly Net Worth snapshot on schedule, if you turn automatic snapshots on.
The add-on does not request access to Gmail, contacts, your calendar, or permission to connect to services outside Google.
How your data is protected
- Lowest permissions. Access is limited to the one spreadsheet you are using and the Drive files described above.
- No data leaves Google. The add-on has no permission to contact outside services and contains no code that sends data elsewhere. Money Monk never receives a copy of your workbook data.
- Encrypted by Google. Your workbook, exports and add-on settings are stored and processed by Google Sheets, Drive and Apps Script, which encrypt data in transit and at rest (How Google Drive protects your data).
- Private by default. Exports are created in your own Drive and are not shared with anyone. Money Monk cannot open your spreadsheet unless you share it with us.
- Settings visible only to you. The small amount of add-on settings (listed below) is stored per user or per workbook within Google Apps Script.
- Protected developer account. One developer account manages the add-on's code and technical logs. It is protected with 2-Step Verification and passkeys, and no one else has access.
- Safe changes. Imports and Start Fresh save an undo copy first, check the result and restore your data if something fails. Edits are locked so two changes cannot overwrite each other.
Technical logs: exactly what they contain
Google Apps Script keeps technical logs so problems can be diagnosed. They are viewable only by the Money Monk developer account and are deleted automatically after 30 days.
Logs contain only:
- the name of the add-on function that ran, when it ran, how long it took, and whether it succeeded (recorded by Google);
- step names and timings, such as "export stage write: 3,722 ms";
- counts, such as the number of records exported or rows updated;
- workbook structure: Money Monk tab names, row numbers, and the built-in names of Money Monk settings and columns;
- your chosen currency code (for example, USD) and theme name when those features run;
- error messages built from the items above, and the location in Money Monk's code where an error happened.
The add-on never writes to its logs: amounts, balances, transactions, account, category or item names, notes, dates you entered, or any other values from your cells.
What the add-on stores, and for how long
Money Monk does not keep a copy of your financial records. Your workbook and exports remain in your Google Drive, under your control.
Within Google Apps Script, the add-on keeps:
- Recent exports: the file ID, name, link and creation time of your 25 most recent exports, so you can pick one to import. Visible only to you; older entries are replaced automatically.
- Snapshot settings: the workbook and schedule reference for automatic Net Worth snapshots, removed when you turn snapshots off. If an automatic snapshot fails, a short notice explaining the problem is kept for you until the next successful snapshot. Visible only to you.
- Last import result: a short summary of the most recent import, stored with that workbook until the next import replaces it.
- Progress: temporary progress for imports and Start Fresh, which expires after 10 minutes.
- Technical logs: as described above, deleted after 30 days.
Deleting your data:
- Turn off automatic snapshots in the add-on.
- Delete export files from your Drive.
- Remove the add-on's access in your Google Account.
Removing access stops the add-on but does not delete your files. Any remaining saved settings are limited to the file references and schedule details listed above and contain no financial data.
Sharing
Money Monk does not sell, rent or share your Google user data. If you share your workbook with someone, their access is controlled by your Google sharing settings.
Google API Services User Data Policy
Money Monk's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Google user data is used only to provide the add-on's features. It is not used for advertising, is not sold or transferred to data brokers, is not used to decide credit worthiness or for lending, and is not used to train AI or machine learning models.
Support emails
The add-on never sends us your data. If you email us for help, we receive only what you choose to send. Please leave balances and other financial details out of screenshots unless they are needed.
Changes to this policy
This policy will be kept accurate. Before the add-on uses Google data in any new way, this page will be updated and your consent requested where required.
